Yard Watering Regulations
City of Dallas Water Utilities
Outdoor water usage can be more than 50% of total summer water use. According to Dallas water regulations: It is against regulations to use sprinklers between 10 am and 6 pm from April 1 to October 31.
Mandatory Watering Restrictions
- April 1 thru October 31
Sprinklers from 6 pm to 10 am only.
Don’t allow sprinklers to water driveways, sidewalks and streets, or generate run off.
If last digit of address is 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 — Water on Sundays and Thursdays
If last digit of address is 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9 — Water on Saturdays and Wednesdays
Drip irrigation, soaker hoses and hand watering allowed at any time.
Violations of these outdoor water guidelines can result in fines of $250 to $2,000 per incident. First offenses will be issued a warning.
Automated Sprinklers
Homes with in-ground automatic irrigation systems use 35% more water than those without. Those with automatic timers for their irrigation systems use 47% more than manual. You may be using a lot more water than your lawn needs.

Automatic sprinkler system owners are required to have rain and freeze sensors installed.
Lawn Watering Tips
Deep and infrequent watering is key to keeping your lawn healthy and your water costs under control. Give your lawn one inch of water every 5 to 7 days. The water will sink in and encourage the roots to grow stronger.
