Eastwood State of the Neighborhood Gathering

Thursday, November 20th – 7 to 8 pm

Central Lutheran Church, 1000 Easton at Forestgrove

Get updated on the state of the neighborhood and all the cool things the Eastwood Neighborhood Association has been doing for our neighborhood. Elect our ENA officers for 2026.

Plus, a police report from the Northeast Division commander Major Gabriel Candelaria (if she’s not called away on police business).

We’re kicking off our Eastwood Entrepreneur Showcase with Miriam Morales of New Song Music Academy. Come hear her inspiring story.

Also:

  • Update on the pedestrian bridge status
  • Gardens and greenbelt news
  • Volunteers in Patrol report

Proposed ENA Officers for 2026

  • Darrell Wood — President
  • Carol Morgan — Vice President
  • Janet Burkhard — Secretary
  • Hadley Hempel — Treasurer

You may also make nominations from the floor.

But we also have committees in need of warm bodies. Here are two:

  • More people on the Social committee means more fun events for the neighborhood. Contact Catherine Depew.
  • Playground Garden of Fun is for parents and grandparents who’d like to see fun educational gardens for kids around the playground. Contact Amy Martin.

Eastwood Entrepreneur Showcase

Miriam Morales of New Song Music Academy

A graduate of Dallas’s Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, where she studied classical and jazz piano, Miriam has been performing on the keyboards for over 25 years. A piano teacher for over a decade, she was inducted into Steinway & Sons Teacher Hall of Fame in 2023.

Come hear how she went from teaching piano from her home on Peavy to being executive director of a full-fledged music school that’s served over 300 students. She’s now a teacher of voice and a variety of instruments. Learn about the emotional satisfaction she gets from performing for church services and weddings, and writing worship songs.
