Tour of Native Grasses in Creekmere Meadow with the Texas Grassman

Eastern gamagrass, the champion for erosion control and wildlife habitat.
  • October 5 Sunday from 2 to 4 pm
  • Meet across from 10236 Creekmere Dr.

John Snowden, the Texas Grassman, is obsessed with native grasses. And quite a character! He knows more about native grasses than anyone in North Texas and provided some for us, like the line of Indiangrass in the Entry Meadow.

Join us on a walk-and-talk of the Creekmere Meadow. We’ll discover so much about these cool plants and also the wildflowers. Discover the benefits of these plants for erosion control and explore how they contribute to creating wildlife habitats.

We took a scouting walk together this week, and he had lots of compliments for our greenbelt work and felt that our meadow had a lot of prairie potential. He’ll give us advice on continuing to shift the meadow toward a real tallgrass prairie. (NTMN: approved for AT hours)

River oats aka inland sea oats. Yes, this popular shade-loving landscaping plant is a native grass.
