State of the Neighborhood Meeting
State of the Neighborhood Meeting May 16, Thursday 7 to 8:30 pm Central Lutheran Church 1000 Easton Rd between Lake Gardens and Vinemont Gather, network, and hear the inside scoops on neighborhood news. Senior Corporal Kevin Kelley, VIP Coordinator for Northeast Police Substation, will visit our meetings and speak if schedule allows. The same with the neighborhood code-enforcement officer. We will take a moment to honor the memory of Rona Dahlgreen, a treasured volunteer who was tragically killed. Guest speaker: Ted Beechler, Director, White Rock Center of Hope The White Rock Center of Hope is a non-profit, ecumenical organization that makes a difference in the lives of people in need through their programs providing food, clothes, transportation, school supplies, and rent/medical assistance. In just three months, 3870 individuals were helped, 129,010 pounds of food distributed, 19,981 items of clothing distributed, and 304 people financially assisted. White Rock Center of Hope Resale Shop started as a casual comment among volunteer friends after a garage sale fundraiser: “With all this leftover stuff, we ought to start a store.” So they did! The shop averages a growing $33,000 per month, bringing the cumulative income since the late ‘90s to over $3,700,000 for community assistance.
